Humor can defuse potential conflict—or create it—as an emotionally-laden yet ambiguous social behavior. Humor is also a powerful impression management tool, but can it compensate for one's perceived short-comings in critical employment decisions (e.g., personnel selection or leadership evaluations)? We'll explore these ideas, including Prof. Gloor's recently published, quantitative humor research in Journal of Applied Psychology and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology which she discussed in her TEDxZurich talk on the same topic, with some fresh insights into some of her current work at the nexus of work-family, DEI, hierarchy, and humor.
