A combination of the most modern teaching and learning methods

Distance learning is based on the modern concept of open and flexible learning: The student is personally responsible for learning and is self-motivated. Distance learning allows for maximum flexibility: Instead of sitting in an overcrowded lecture-room you sit where you feel most comfortable and hence learn best – at the time that best suits you in your daily and weekly routine.
Distance learning is based on various teaching and learning methods – it combines e-Learning with classroom learning. Depending upon the study course, the various sections assume different forms.

Self-instruction

As a distance student, and independently of time and place, you learn by using various forms of specifically-prepared teaching materials, which are delivered to your home:

  • study sheets
  • technical and text books
  • exercises
  • interactive CD-ROMs
  • podcasts and videocasts
  • interactive Web tools
  • Exchanges with tutors and other students over the Intranet by means of an e-Campus learning platform (Moodle).

On-site sessions

Depending upon the course of studies various on-site sessions are organised – participation in which may be voluntary or mandatory:

  • General introductory session
his is where you learn the basics of distance learning, how best to prepare yourself and your study corner and what further preparations you need to make to guarantee the success of your distance learning.
  • Introductory sessions specific to a given course
Here you will find out in detail how your study will proceed, what deadlines apply and where you can or have to attend what sessions.
  • Blended learning (Tutorials)
Here you discuss the theoretical material that you have covered with lecturers and fel-low students using practical examples. The exchange with lecturers and fellow stu-dents enables you the better to retain what you have learnt, to compare your newly-acquired knowledge with that of the other students and to seek concrete solutions for problems that arise in your daily working life.

Individual support

Students with Distance Learning University Switzerland receive individual support – be it at one of the partner universities, at the Distance Learning University Switzerland itself or from tutors in the study centres or from the scientific and administrative staff of the Distance Learning University. Support is ever more frequently provided also over the Web: Students and their lecturers communicate through our specific e-Campus training platform.

Our lecturer-to-student ratio is well above average so that Distance Learning University Switzerland can cater to the flexibility needs of its students as hardly any other university.
